History
: Yellow ocher is one of the first pigments used by man. The first ocher sticks found date back 400,000 years! The dark yellow ocher JFLES (Yellow Dark Washed Extra Superior) is extracted in the quarry of the Société des Ocres de France in Gargas, Vaucluse. It is found in an ore and its entire manufacture consists of recovering this pure ocher through a long process of extraction, separation, washing, decantation, drying and grinding. It is also with dark yellow ocher that red ocher is made by calcining it. This pigment is the "star" product that has made Ocres de France famous. JFLES dark yellow ocher is also found under the name ocher jaune du Vaucluse.
